“And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh” (Jude 23).
Can one soul be so precious that heaven rejoices when that one person turns away from sin and comes to God?
Absolutely!
The Lord Jesus declares in Luke 15:7 that there is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. This reveals the immeasurable value God places upon a human soul.
There are people around us who are spiritually lost. Some have become prisoners of sinful habits. Some have been deceived by false teachings. Some have grown cold towards God. Others have wandered so far away that they no longer recognise the danger threatening their souls.
What should we do when we encounter them?Should we condemn them and walk away? Should we remain silent while they continue towards destruction?
No! We must reach out to them with the love of Christ. We must pray for them, speak the truth to them, demonstrate God’s love through our lives, and gently direct them towards repentance and salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul writes: “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men” (2 Corinthians 5:11).
Jude, the brother of James, uses this powerful picture to describe the danger of spiritual destruction. He warns believers about ungodly influences and urges them to remain faithful to the truth. The fire is an image of grave spiritual danger and judgment.
Sin separates people from fellowship with God, hardens the heart, enslaves the will, and deceives the conscience.
The enemy may make sin appear attractive, pleasurable, and harmless. But what begins as a small compromise can gradually become a chain that is difficult to break.
Never become so confident in your own strength that you forget your dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
A person who attempts to rescue others while neglecting their own spiritual life may eventually become entangled in the very things they hoped to overcome.
Therefore, pray before you speak. Examine your own heart before you correct another. Seek God’s wisdom before you act.
We must never imagine that we can earn salvation by rescuing others. We are saved by God’s grace through faith, not by our own works (Ephesians 2:8–10). Rather, because we have received His mercy, we are called to become instruments of that mercy.
A heart touched by the mercy of the Lord Jesus cannot remain indifferent to souls in danger.
Let us be Christians who pray for the lost, speak for the truth, stand firm in holiness, extend compassion to the broken, and rejoice whenever a wandering soul returns to the Father.
May the Lord make us faithful vessels in His hands: not to condemn the world, but to proclaim the salvation He offers through Jesus Christ.
We look to the Holy Spirit for hearts that weep for the lost, hands that reach out to the broken, mouths that speak the truth, and lives that remain pure before God.
For one soul is precious in the sight of the Lord, and the love of Christ calls us never to treat that soul as insignificant.
